As we head into a new month (yay, April & spring!), I’m taking a quick look back at March and sharing a few photos from my trip to Florida.
If you don’t stop for your cup of OJ at the Florida Welcome Center, are you even in Florida?!
I have family in Orlando, so it’s become a regular destination for me since there’s always someone to visit and a place to stay! This time, we road tripped with my eighty pound doodle dog. (Side note – we were at the vet recently and Max has gained 7 lbs since last summer! 😳 The doctor wasn’t concerned and said it’s likely winter weight, but he’s never gained that much before! More walks and a few less cookies for my little chunkster.)
Anyway, we made an overnight stop in Savannah, Georgia to break up the driving time. Savannah is one of my favorite east coast cities. Even though it’s kind of tourist-y, the historic downtown district is SO beautiful and peaceful.
We visited the always gorgeous Forsyth Park…
Grand trees dripping with Spanish moss have my heart.
The azaleas were in full bloom…
And Max was all too happy to pose around the park…
Gah, that dog. Love.
We stayed at the Foley House Inn, overlooking Chippewa Square (famous for the Forrest Gump bench scene). Like much of Savannah, Foley House is rumored to be haunted. We definitely heard footsteps and strange noises throughout the night – resident ghost or just the sighs and creaks of an old building? I don’t know, but we sure enjoyed the southern style home-cooked breakfast on the inn’s garden patio. Haunted or not, I highly recommend Foley House if you’re visiting Savannah. Southern Living agrees – they recently named it the best inn in the entire south!
Still dreaming of those cheesy grits.
And perused the shops on our stroll along the Savannah River…
Then it was on to Florida, where we enjoyed lots of sunshine and lake views on our daily walks…
We visited Disney Springs and dined at Chef Art Smith’s (Oprah’s former chef, I had no clue!) Homecoming restaurant, where I ate ALL the southern fried food.
Hushpuppies, fried green tomatoes, and fried chicken, oh my.
Took in the topiaries, floral displays, and, of course, some international eats at Epcot’s Flower & Garden Festival…
And spent lots of time visiting nearby towns & dining out with these sweet pups. I LOVE dog-friendly towns. I really want to relocate to a warmer, more dog friendly place than where I currently live!
That’s Max with my parent’s dog, Lacy. They’re quite the photogenic duo, aren’t they?
